I'm going to have to play devil's advocate here – just letting you know in advance. POZ is a periodical publication; it is produced and delivered for free to many ASO's , charities, clinics and doctor's offices. It also has a great online presence and has FREE personals for those affected by HIV/AIDS and is very involved in getting the word out , serving the community and sponsoring fund raisers for HIV/AIDS. How do you think it is still mostly "FREE"??? …the answer is ADVERTISING. Those ads for medicine cover the costs involved. I'm sorry to also say that being positive for 10 years (diagnosed with AIDS in 2002) myself I am very healthy fit and active – I run marathons, sail and kite surf, and have gone rock climbing – and you all can too if you took the time to take better care and work out. Remember that it is a business first and foremost! There are no more subsidies from the federal government for them to produce their periodicals. They have to make money somehow. I have to applaud POZ for still staying connected and supporting our community in this economy and dwindling federal dollars for HIV/AIDS.
FYI – a little history on POZ magazine (from wikepedia); The magazine was founded in 1994 [2] by Sean Strub, an HIV-positive and openly gay businessman and activist. Before launching POZ, Strub was involved with numerous social issues, including politics, environmentalism, civil rights, LGBT rights and HIV/AIDS. POZ is published by Smart + Strong, which also publishes AIDSmeds.com, a website for HIV/AIDS treatment information; Real Health, a magazine and website for African-Americanhealth; and Tu Salud, a magazine and website for Latino health. In 2004, Strub sold Smart + Strong to CDM Publishing, LLC.[3]
I met my honey on POZ. But I have to agree the personals is filled with scammers. You just have to be careful. When ever I would get a message, if they spelled mom mum or favorite favourite or color colour little things like that here and there I would delete the message. I had an experience with a scammer from PozCIRCLe.com. It was when I first tried the internet dating thing, well I gave him my name address, and the next thing you know I started receiving packages every day from UPS. Shoes purses. And they were addressed with my name plus another last name. I finally ran down the UPS guy and told him I did not order these, I did not pay for these please take them back. then on day a week later he wrote and asked if I got the packages I said yes but I sent them back, he said he sent them so I could send them to him. Finally I realized he was a scammer. I reported him to the website and FBI ONLINE Compter Fraud reporting.
