2008
2008 WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR. It was probably the best year in a very long time. Getting by is a thing of the past. Recovery is the way of life now.
I got clean March 23, 2008. Before that time I could tell you exactly why each of the steps would not work. I found a sponsor right away. I had gone to a meeting to see my ex-husband take three years. (Yes, we split up because he had gotten clean and I hadn’t) I had just gotten out of de-tox that morning, and at that meeting there was also a woman taking 22 years. I was so taken with her I could not take my eyes off of her for the rest of the meeting. I felt like a stalker! I didn’t ask her to be my sponsor, I flat out told her “I need you” I went back out and used for about a week and then went to a residential program not too far away. I stayed in touch with her and started my step work. I graduated my program in September and at this time I was a month into my first semester of college.
I have my final grades! I have a 3.4 grade point average!!! I am so blown away by this. Never in my wildest imagination would I have believed I could do this. i had not been in a classroom in 32 years. i never finished the 8th grade. I am going for my AA in Alcohol and Other Drug Studies so I can be a counselor and help others get clean.
At six months clean I graduated my program and went home. Two days later I had a secretary commitment at the morning meeting a block from where I live! So five days a week I start my day with a meeting.
The best of 2008 is the relationship I have with my higher power that I call God. Without him I would not have any of this. I have a hunger for more of everything this world has to offer. How about you??
