"Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. "

JR Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Blue here,

Blue times for many people. Hard lonely times filled with such pain. What to do blue girls, what to do.

Of course being such compassionate people, others in pain touch our souls deeply. Blue girls understand the depth of dark times, having been there many times themselves. So how can we help?

Sometimes just sitting next to someone is enough. Acknowledging their presence and pain with your physical being, acknowledging and validating their dark time, can be very powerful and comforting.

Other times words are needed. At times our words are blunt, a verbal slap across the face. We should always be merciful, however, and make sure our words come with love, hard love perhaps, but always love.

Sharing our experience, our own journey through dark times can be powerful stuff. We are walking breathing examples that the dark times do end and can be vanquished-if only for awhile. Life does go on, and we can be examples and beacons of hope for others struggling.

So blue girls, share your stories, your successes and failures. Be there for another dark soul- help guide them through the black night of depression. Push them to get help, accept them and love them always.

“There is only what you want and what happens. There is only grabbing on and holding tight in the darkness.”

― Lauren Oliver
