I’m just writing this because I needed someone that listened to my thoughts, but I guess here they’ll be listened just as much as they would be in my room, speaking to a wall. I’m Fra and I’m 19. I’m a sex addict.

Actually I’m addicted to sexual fantasies, and I really can’t get them out of my head. I’m still trying to understand where does this come from, why it happened to me, how to get out of this. Two weeks ago I failed my exams because I wasn’t able to focus on anything, I was completely lost. But it made me realize how much I need to quit. These two weeks actually went quite good, I was kinda able to control myself most of the time. Now I’m really tired, and I ask myself how am I going to fight this problem completely alone. I’m too ashamed to talk about this with anyone I know, I would feel like a burden to my friends and family. I’m just really really tired.

Fra just know that you are not alone at all. There are many with the same issue for various reasons.
Compulsive sexual behaviour is sometimes called hypersexuality, hypersexuality disorder or sexual addiction. It’s an excessive preoccupation with sexual fantasies, urges or behaviors that is difficult to control, causes you distress, or negatively affects your health, job, relationships or other parts of your life.

    Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy, also called talk therapy, can help you learn how to manage your compulsive sexual behavior. Types of psychotherapy include:

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which helps you identify unhealthy, negative beliefs and behaviours and replace them with more adaptive ways of coping. You learn strategies to make these behaviours less private and interfere with being able to access sexual content so easily.
Acceptance and commitment therapy, which is a form of CBT that emphasizes acceptance of thoughts and urges and a commitment to strategies to choose actions that are more consistent with important values.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is therapy that focuses on increasing your awareness of unconscious thoughts and behaviors, developing new insights into your motivations, and resolving conflicts.

Hey Fra, you are for sure not alone in all this. Going with the last comment my “hypersexuality” coupled with drug addiction has landed me in such a lonely shameful place. I have a fantastically creative imagination that most days I wish could be switched off. Ever since being diagnosed with HIV I now have the overwhelming fear that I am no longer able to do anything but fantasize and now within the rooms of recovery I lack any sense of who my friends really are. Anyway what I’m trying to say is that you are for sure not alone.

I perfectly understand what you mean by saying you wish you could switch off your mind, it can get really difficult to take back control sometimes. Anyway, I see that there are quite a lot of people with this problem. Thank you for reaching out, I hope you will find your way out.

    Fras,
You are not alone Fras, I to have the same thing which lead my fantasies to come to real life and sometimes it was bad and it put me in some risky situations. I’ve felt like some kind of compulsive machine that can’t help myself. It’s good you are acknowledging it and working on it. I too might seek CBT therapy treatment.
