A lot of the time, I’m not focused on the present. I  was diagnosed with anxiety by my therapist and one of the symptoms of this mental illness is worrying about the future.

The thing is, I don’t like who I am. I feel that I could be a better person. My anxiety limits me in being able to do certain things. It can hold me back and I hate this about myself.

Everyday, I’m constantly working towards the woman I want to be. I fantasize about her a lot.

She’s braver.

She’s happier.

I can’t wait to become her.

I like how you ended your post with a positive/ affirmative statement. I believe you are her already and you just need time to see it. Be patient with yourself until you realize you are this strong/ beautiful person. Most people have times where the kind wanders and drifts into the future. It’s one of the main things that separate us from wild animals. We have forethought. This allows us to plan and prepare for future events. This can be healthy and unhealthy. It’s healthy when we can prepare for our week ahead. It’s unhealthy when we are trying to live a week ahead and accomplish things that do not need attention at all in the present. Thus, practicing mindfulness is a great way to train, or retrain, our brains to profit the present. It can help us really appreciate this moment. We can plan for the future and then let it go and be there. The last known great Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius once said: “ do not worry about the future. You will meet it with the same weapons of reason that are you in the present.” (Meditations; Marcus Aurelius). In other words, do not live in the past or future. The present is what we can control. The present is amazing. Try to slow down and feel how wonderful it is to take your time with each day. Have a great day.
