Hey hey! Recently I just went through a really hard time and wanted to show some of my coping mechanisms that have risen me back up to my old self. When depression hits in full swing there is nearly nothing of interest. You don’t want to do anything; you spend your life laying in bed, alone with your thoughts, wishing you were still asleep. Now don’t think these tips will be easy. In all honesty, it takes a lot of work to actually put yourself on track to recovery, but I promise, it’s worth it!

  1. Music: Investigating in music can be good for anyone! Performers, like myself, I’ll speak to you first. Investing in your music will benefit you by giving you a full distraction from your thoughts. It also allows you express your emotions, the good and the bad, through a different type of language when words have completely failed you. Others can find music to listen to; you can try everything from thoughtful classical to lyrics that you can feel through your heart.
  2. Art: Yet another way to express yourself is to experiment in art. Although many people do not attempt this because they feel they’re “bad,” but the great thing about art is there are so many different kinds. And if nothing else is taken from it, you get to relax and take some time just for color.
  3. Reading: Reading is a fantastic way to distract your mind from all those racing thoughts. You can let yourself live in a completely different world, as a completely different person, when your own life feels so under control. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll be inspired enough to start making writing of your own! Another fantastic way to cope with ongoing trouble.
