As I'm listening to Duran Duran's "Hungry Like A Wolf" and moving my head like those guys from "A Night At The Roxbury" I began to think to myself…everytime I listen to music it makes me feel so much better than I was feeling before, BUT it all depends on what I'm listening to. If I listen to something up beat like the song "Cousins" by Vampire Weekend, it makes me want to get up and dance around like a complete idiot, but if I listen to something like "So long goodbye" by 10 years then I become the most depressed person on the planet.

I think music can help a lot of people, they just have to choose the right type of music. People need to choose songs that make them happy, that remind them of the best memories, songs that give them a cheerful and positive feeling. I used to be the person who needed to listen to a song that related to whatever emotion I was feeling right in that moment, but I came to a realization that that's not always the best method to go by.

Rather than listening to something that you can "relate" to and will just make you feel worse, listen to something that will make you laugh or make you want to dance around like a total moron. Pick a song that will make you feel better, even if it's for three minutes. Those three minutes of happiness will really make a difference in your day.

If listening to Jazz makes you happy, then go for it. If Death Metal makes you happy and reminds you about that awesome time you had in a mosh pit, then listen to that. Depression sucks and makes you not want to do anything, but if you're a person that listens to music while depressed, pick something that will brighten up your mood. It helps. Promise.
