Hope you\’re having a good day.  My wife and I (thank you dear wife) have just entered counseling with a specialist in OCD.  My OCD focuses on control issues with regard to the rings she wears.  Can you believe it?
Crazy, isn\’t it?  But that\’s what OCD is.
Anyway, I went into these sessions (by the way, we have had gobs of therapy over the years–but that\’s another story) with a lot of anxiety.
I created a SUDS rating that matches the anxiety level that each set of rings triggers in me.  And then we set a schedule.  She wears one of the rings for a week, increasing the SUDS level categories each weak.
Wow!  So far it\’s been working. I had a good amount of anxiety the first day after leaving the counseling center.  But after about three days I was O.K.
Second week.  Same story.  This is Wednesday and I\’m doing O.K.  I have habituated the rings on the lower level.  Let\’s see how things go as we move up the ladder.  I don\’t let myself worry about tomorrow because if I do my anxiety goes over the top.
By the way, if any of you are in the Chicago Metropolitan area, or close to it,  I really recommend Anxiety and Agrophobia Treatment Center out of Northbrook, IL.  Every counselor up there seems to really know how to address OCD, a first in my experience

Are you into reading? I love books. I\’m just finishing a book by Tom Wolfe, called A Man in Full. Wow! 700 plus pages which require a lot of skimming because he lapses into so much description. But I am intrigued with his incorporation of the Stoics and Epectitus into the plot to deliver his perspective on what makes a person a person and not a mere brute. When I finish, I write a short critique in my next blog.
