STOP! YOU ARE NOT IN ANY DANGER!

I thought today I would like to write about the Biological part of our disorder. I touched on this with a new friend yesterday and I thought it would be good to share with the rest of the group. The mind is a fragile organ, like the small bones in your feet or fingers, your kidney or heart,but no one sees it for what it is. If you refrain from alcohol for fear of damaging your liver why not avoid things to ensure a healthy brain? Negative feelings, thoughts and emotions are as toxic to your brain as alcohol is to your liver. You ever here those stories of people seeing light when their brain shuts down or when people go into shock and are daze in a relax state. Your mind has a sensor, when it gets to be too much it finds a way to compensate by either shutting down for a moment, creating a safe place, or even alternate personalities to help with the pain. We are not as bad as most. What happends in anxious people is we have a predisposition to worry and fear. Its more of a cognative (learned)behavior than biological. So it can be fixed without pills 🙂 When we put out minds through stressful, negativeprolonged periods the brain doesn't function on the level it would like to so it resets in a way. The amygdala becomes over sensitive. This is ok, we can fix it through retraining 😉 Its like when you where a child, you where affraid of irrational things but as you grewupyou trained your mind that these things are not as frightening as you thinkthey are.The amygdala is a part of your brain that makes quick decisions in threatening situations. It works so quickly that you rarely even know whats happening, which gives us the feeling of no control. See this as a great thing. Know that if you where ever in any real danger that your amygdala is as sharp as a tack and will always be there to get you out of danger 🙂 What is happening to us is the amygdala is seeing the smallest threats as life threatening so it triggers the "fight or flight" responce. When I or any psycologist says you should stay in situations you feel like you want to run away from, its simply to retrain your amygdala. What you are doing is telling your mind "No amygdala, you are wrong. This is not a threatening situation." Your amygdala is not an a** hole. He will listen to you. Sure it may doubt you a little he'll ask a few times because he's a high strung lil fellah. But in time he will say "yeah, your right, this situation is ok". This is the key to getting over anxiety. It sounds simple doesn't it? It is really, the hard part is these feelings have to penitrate into your subconscious. Your mind needs to say "this is ok before you think it". Its like a race, the amygdala is fast! The reason he has gotten this fast is because you have had negative thoughts for sooooo long that your mind sees all stimuli as negative and doesn't even ask you anymore, its in automode.So you need to change that. This is why I always say to stay possive. Now if some one is hitting you on the head with a base ball bat I don't expect you to smile and say thanks. But if you are in line at the grocery store and there is 3 people in front of you there is no reason to lose your mind because you have to wait 6 minutes. You can beleive this because I am living proof. I am the angriest man alive. When I have angry negative days I am anxious as hell, when I take everithing with a smile I have little to no anxiety at all. So, the road to recovery is not short. Just saying this to yourself will not fix all but as you apply the possitve thinking you will feel better. As you face minor fears you will succeed. As you succeed you will feel better and want to try larger fears 🙂 My anxiety tends to go toward the agoraphobic side and yesterday I drove 200kms from my home. You can trust me, This works. Give you anxiety space to flow thought you while you observe it. You'll see that anxitey is just a feeling with a few symptoms. It will not hurt you, its there to protect you. At the moment its over protective but thats ok. It is a part of you and you need it. Don't hate your anxiety. Nuture it back to its proper functioning state.

    Very good read! It\'s all about being in control. Some of us can do it my pure will, while others use meds to help as a crutch. What ever the reasons I\'m glad to hear some good words about strength of the mind.
