From How it Works:
No one among us has been able to maintain anything like perfect adherence to these principles. We are not Saints. The point IS that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines. We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection.

I've been hearing this phrase a lot lately, “We are not Saints.” Unfortunately taken out of context, it sounds to me like just another excuse, another “cop out”.

In saying this, I have to ask myself a few questions:

Do I take joy in another person's failure/struggle?
Do I try to make myself look better at the expense of others?
Am I making spiritual progress?

While no one else can measure my spiritual progress…my words and my actions demonstrate my spirit for ALL the world to see.
For God to see too.

No, we are NOT saints, but can I claim spiritual progress?
If I want to progress I have to take action, do the work, listen, pray…..

And…every time I take action, I risk failure. – That's life!

My recovery is not a competition. It is a journey that I want to be well equipped for and I can be if I listen to and learn from the countless others who came before me and if I do what they did.

I want what they have! I want Spiritual Progress.

This morning's Daily Reflection was perfect for me so I thought I'd share it in it's entirety:

”When we begin to take our failures non-seriously, it means that we are ceasing to be afraid of them. It is of immense importance ot learn to laugh at ourselves.

“Perfection and it's control over our lives stands seriously inthe way of our growth and well being, emotionslly, spiritually, and even physically. through our failures we learn humility, we learn to look at others for help and guidance. We learn how to let others fail too. We fail because we are human.

When we no longer fear failure, we are free to attempt greater feats. we dare to learn more and life is fuller for it – not jus tin our own lives but in the lives we touch.

Laughter over our mistakes eases the risk of trying again. Laughter keeps us young and the enlightened find more pleasure every day.

I will fail at something today and I will laugh about it. My laughter wil open the way to another try.”

I want there to be laughter in my life today.
I believe that laughter is the closest sound I can make to God's voice.

To have something to laugh at, I have to DO SOMETHING.

Even when I fail, I'm fun to watch. Just ask Gus. He knows.

He laughs at me all the time…
………..today I want to laugh WITH Him.
