Hello Everyone, I know I have been really quiet lately…. and of course lots o’ stuff is going on… Geeze Iris, stop stalling….  just get to the point!!  Okay, okay…  here it is; over the last few years as my body has been changing (ever so slowly)… so have my clothes.   🙂

Now for some of you this might not seem like a big deal… right?!?  Well keep in mind that for me, buying new clothes is a big deal. One of the big gifts from my dad each year is when he takes me out clothes shopping. 🙂  Now keep in mind that this is for new clothes ( New to everyone, not just to me)…  So we have to plan a trip to drive to a town with a big enough store, or enough stores.  For there to be any decent selection.  We both pick a day, and as the date gets closer we narrow it down to one.  It is lots of fun with dad ’cause I get to hear his ideas too!   🙂

Now usually when I tell you that I have been “clothes shopping” it is just me (and Bob), going to two or three or (even more rarely) four different thrift stores.  The church ones are always best just after a specific holiday like Christmas.  But any trip over two hours takes some planning, since it is quite a drive just to get there…. Work clothes are easiest (usually) I just get the next larger size.  Don’t forget to by some more of those “Iron-on”patches which of course, I also sew into place.

~♥~

Am I looking for Summer clothes or Winter clothes?  Does this involve shoes?  Am I looking for women’s or men’s clothes?  ’cause they fit me differently.  They are usually too loose in one way or another… So I need to modify them a bit to fit my scrawny body… Which is less of an issue after each year since I hit puberty. Remember, that mine started when I was eighteen!  So… three years into this “change” and I almost, almost have a bust (sigh).  But my hips and bum are definitely growing, and women’s clothing seems more complex… Different brands of jeans and  slacks have larger thighs, higher waist lines, narrow legs or lower hemlines.  So I am trying on like 10 – 12 pairs just to find ones with the “right” waist size…. and I will need to take in the legs, add some pleats, raise the hem….

~♥~

Well this went off on a tangent I was not expecting….Bob usually goes along as my co pilot, and to remind me to limit how much time I spend inside..

I will tell you more (or less) if I can stay on topic next time…. I Promise.   Sending all of you one of my silly grins, a sideways hug and a peck on the cheek – Iris

    Iris,

I get the struggle! But I also get the joy as well! The first day I went into Target and WalMart to FINALLY try on dresses after being told I couldn’t wear them my entire life was thrilling and liberating! I can only imagine it’s even better still when you have somebody who loves and supports you there with you! My big sister has promised to take me shopping when I get my taxes. I can’t wait! Personally I find myself struggling more with style. I stick exclusively to Women’s clothes but from there I am a mess. I will put together an outfit from Goodwill that I love and big Sis will calmly tell me I look like too masculine. I need to hide my hips more. I need to not show shoulders, or whatever advice she has to give. I am grateful to have her there to tell me these things. Love hearing from you on here. Thanks for sharing these insights into your life.

    Hugs!

    Josie
