Names. In sixth grade, I always forgot to put my name on my work. This spawned a slew of comments from my parents, making jokes and calling me “Name?”. Now I really feel like that sometimes. My given name was Maria. I lived with it, and once had an entire conversation with my dad, trying to suppress name dysphoria. It took a long time to figure out my name. I knew I wanted something similar to my given name but still distinct. I chose Micheal. I’m non-binary, not a man. It’s still hard adjusting to call myself that even around friends who I’m out to. And I’m not out to very many friends. Well, everyone knows I’m non-binary, but they don’t know my name. I was just done with a female name and pronouns. My name is Micheal, my pronouns are she/her, and I need to get better at saying that.
