that involve threat to self or a potential override of control are associated with twice the violence as other psychotic symptoms. Persons with these symptoms are 6 times more likely to be violent than persons without mental disorders. When these symptoms are combined with substance abuse, these people are 8 to 10 times more likely to be violent than persons without mental disorders. No evaluation can absolutely predict how or when violence might occur. Further evaluation for violence risk should be conducted by a mental health professional competent to make an assessment of the risk for violence.
