So earlier this week my brother and I were talking about Six Degrees from Kevin Bacon and Bacon Numbers. I told him Aldof Hitler had a Bacon number of four:

Adolf Hitler has a Bacon number of 4.

Adolf Hitler was in Sieg des Glaubens, Der (1933) with Hermann Goring, Hermann Goring was in Nostradamus Says So! (1955) with Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth II was in Cerveau, Le (1969) with Eli Wallach, Eli Wallach was in Mystic River (2003) with Kevin Bacon

He wondered what Al Gore’s Bacon number was since he was in “An Inconvenient Truth” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0497116/), a documentary based on his book.

Al Gore (I) has a Bacon number of 3.

Al Gore (I) was in Final Days, The (2000) with Kevin Spacey,
Kevin Spacey was in Shipping News, The (2001) with Deborah Grover,
Deborah Grover was in Where the Truth Lies (2005) with Kevin Bacon

This made me wonder about the Bacon Numbers of our Presidents:

George W. Bush has a Bacon number of 4.

George W. Bush was in Krajina meho srdce (2004) with Zuzana Stivinova (II),
Zuzana Stivinova (II) was in Pasti, pasti, pasticky (1998) with Karel Roden (I),
Karel Roden (I) was in 15 Minutes (2001) with David Alan Grier,
David Alan Grier was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon

Bill Clinton (I) has a Bacon number of 2.

Bill Clinton (I) was in Bamboozled (2000) with Mos Def,
Mos Def was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon

George Bush has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.

George Bush cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.

About 12% of all actors cannot be linked to the rest of the movie universe, either because they have appeared only in TV features or straight-to-video releases that the Oracle doesn’t count, or because they have not appeared in any features with actors from the Hollywood mainstream.

Ronald Reagan (I) has a Bacon number of 2.

Ronald Reagan (I) was in Young Doctors, The (1961) with Eddie Albert,
Eddie Albert was in Big Picture, The (1989) with Kevin Bacon

(Remember, Reagan was a movie actor before he became a politician.)

Jimmy Carter (I) has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.

Jimmy Carter (I) cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.

Gerald Ford has a Bacon number of 2.

Gerald Ford was in Green Dragon (2001) with Forest Whitaker,
Forest Whitaker was in Air I Breathe, The (2007) with Kevin Bacon

Richard Nixon has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.

Richard Nixon cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.

Lyndon Johnson (I) has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.

Lyndon Johnson (I) cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.

John F. Kennedy has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.

John F. Kennedy cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.

(This I find surprising. I thought with all the times JFK’s “played himself” in archive footage he’d have some link to Kevin Bacon.)

Dwight D. Eisenhower has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.

Dwight D. Eisenhower cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.

Harry S. Truman has a Bacon number of 3.

Harry S. Truman was in Go for Broke! (1951) with Van Johnson (I),
Van Johnson (I) was in Kidnapping of the President, The (1980) with Maury Chaykin,
Maury Chaykin was in Where the Truth Lies (2005) with Kevin Bacon

Franklin Delano Roosevelt has a Bacon number of 3.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was in On Dress Parade (1939) with Sol Gorss,
Sol Gorss was in How the West Was Won (1962) with Eli Wallach,
Eli Wallach was in Mystic River (2003) with Kevin Bacon

Herbert Hoover (I) has a Bacon number of 4.

Herbert Hoover (I) was in Public Be Damned (1917) with Charles Richman,
Charles Richman was in Exile Express (1939) with Don Brodie,
Don Brodie was in Murphy’s Law (1986) with David Hayman (I),
David Hayman (I) was in Where the Truth Lies (2005) with Kevin Bacon

(Anybody besides me find it funny that a President appeared in a film called “Public Be Damned?” Especially this one who was criticized for sitting on his butt while the economy tanked in the Great Depression. He’s also got a bit of the Leonardo DiCaprio look going on.)

Calvin Coolidge has a Bacon number of 3.

Calvin Coolidge was in Screen Snapshots Series 9, No. 14 (1930) with Matt Moore (I),
Matt Moore (I) was in Happy Years, The (1950) with Robert Wagner (I),
Robert Wagner (I) was in Wild Things (1998) with Kevin Bacon

(I wonder if his role was in a *silent* film? 😛 Seriously, thought, I can’t imagine a man like Calvin Coolidge running for a federal public office today. The media is in your face every waking moment and your campaign can be made or broken on one 5 second sound bite. “You loose” is just not going to cut it.)

The Oracle cannot find “Warren G. Harding.” You have probably misspelled your entry, but it’s also possible that the actor or actress you seek is not in our database. The Oracle didn’t find any close matches, but you may have better luck searching at www.imdb.com.

Woodrow Wilson (I) has a Bacon number of 3.

Woodrow Wilson (I) was in Womanhood, the Glory of the Nation (1917) with Walter McGrail,
Walter McGrail was in Dick Tracy vs. Crime Inc. (1941) with Wally Rose,
Wally Rose was in Murder in the First (1995) with Kevin Bacon

(Political scientists gloat about the fact that Wilson was the only president with a poly sci background. Us engineers hang our heads in shame because our only representative in the White House is Jimmy Carter. One poly sci major in my Presidential Politics class said “Engineers should never be president.”)

The Oracle cannot find “William H. Taft.” You have probably misspelled your entry, but it’s also possible that the actor or actress you seek is not in our database.

Theodore Roosevelt has a Bacon number of 3.

Theodore Roosevelt was in Womanhood, the Glory of the Nation (1917) with Walter McGrail,
Walter McGrail was in Dick Tracy vs. Crime Inc. (1941) with Wally Rose,
Wally Rose was in Murder in the First (1995) with Kevin Bacon

William McKinley (I) has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.

William McKinley (I) cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.

I tested every president after McKinley to Abraham Lincoln, when motion photography was still in the developmental stage, and got the same results. No links to Kevin Bacon.

Well, there is your trivia for today.

Joel
