Hi all,

I’ve thought a lot about this, and just thought I’d dedicate my first blog on here, to this subject.

For those of us who suffer from ocd, we have our rituals/habits that ocd has made us do, we feel like we have to do these rituals/habits, so that we don’t suffer from the anxiety that ocd brings.

It’s like a pattern, and ocd makes us follow the pattern.

We have all been led on a path, by ocd, to follow this pattern, we don’t like it, but we have to follow this pattern, to avoid the anxiety, so that we feel like things are just right.

For example, someone with ocd may have to touch an item, for example, a door knob, for let’s say, 10 times, so that they feel like, everything is just right.

What if though, one day, that person touched the door knob, 9 times. To break the cycle? What if, that person skipped touching the door knob, just one time, so instead of touching it 10 times, just 9 times.

What if that person with ocd, went on with their day, and at the end of the day, realized, and said, hey, I broke that “touching the door knob 10 times” habit, by just touching the door knob 9 times, and look, everything is fine, and what if they thought, hey, I don’t have to touch it 10 times, to feel like everything is just right.

Right then and there, that is breaking a ritual/habit, a ritual/habit that ocd once made that person do, now, the person has began to reverse that, and may say, tomorrow, I’ll only touch the door knob, 8 times. It may or may not cause someone anxiety to try to change the ritual/habit. That person may or may not get stuck with a new “touching the door knob” number, but they’ll know, that they changed the ritual/habit once, it can certainly be done again. Perhaps leading to a point where, the person may not even have to touch the door knob twice, just once, to open and close the door.

It’s easier said than done, but what if, reversing rituals/habits, to get back to the way things once were, were infact, a way to control ocd?

And this goes for all habits/rituals, examples, hand washing, double checking things, what if the person can reverse those rituals/habits, by changing/reversing rituals/habits.

If you touch a door knob 10 times, what is the difference, if you touch it 8 or 7 or 6 or 5 times? Rituals/habits can be changed.

As it took time for us to develope these habits/rituals that ocd makes us do, what I am saying is, I believe those of us with ocd, can reverse our habits/rituals, even if it takes time to do so.

Thanks for reading.

Take care Friends.
