Okay, so I may not be a professional at all of mental health, but I have experience in it and I think I should share what I think helps when you start comparing yourself to others, since I (And pretty much everyone) has done at some point in their lives.
As someone who is depressed and has self doubt, it’s really easy to compare yourself to those who you think are “better” than you. And notice how I used quotation marks on “better”. Because, as much as some people may have more improvements in quality than you, it doesn’t matter. You’re still you. And being yourself makes you who you are.
What I feel like is a big impact might be social media, and because of Media, you might also be comparing yourself to others as well in regards to other reasons. Such as saying “oh I’ll never be as good” or “I’ll never accomplish what they’re accomplishing”. But comparing yourself to others just makes it a worse feeling. It doesn’t motivate you in the slightest. I mean, sure, you can see what others are doing and be motivated to do what they’re doing, but otherwise, if you’re comparing yourself to them as if they are better than you, don’t do that. Because honestly, who cares? You’re you. You can be whatever you want to be. I’m not trying to discredit anyone’s feelings or devalue anyone’s feelings. But if you are genuinely getting upset about things, that means you need a break of some kind. So, you need a break from something and learn to appreciate yourself more, and value yourself, reflection, that what you’re doing is good enough.
I know because I’ve done that several times in my life. And as cliché as this is, just be yourself. If people don’t care about you for who you are, they shouldn’t be a part of your life if they discredit how you feel. And while I may live a decent life, it’s still hard to do things that feel successful because of how much comparing I’m doing. So, don’t let your distorted lies deceive you anymore. You are your own artist….
