Well, I am now officially 37-years-old. It is my birthday. When I got up after 4 hours sleep, I noticed that there were two gift bags on the dining room table. One was "from my kids" with a card and seasons 1 and 2 of the television show Bones. My son gave me a big hug and kiss and told me Happy Birthday, and that he loves me. The other was from my wife. The card said Happy Birthday, but nothing more than that, since she doesn't love me. This was just her being polite. The present from her was a Johnny Depp movie I've never seen. I hope I like it. There was also a text message from her on my phone. "Happy Birtday! Hope u have a good day."
Then the phone started ringing. My parents sang "Happy Birthday" to me when I answered the phone. Less than a minute after that conversation the phone rang again. It was my mother-in-law trying to figure out what to get me. Another two minutes after that call and it was Discover Card, wanting to know if I wanted to enroll in some program or another.
A couple of hours later my daughter called, asking if she could extend the time she was staying at her friend Margaret's house. I told her she could stay until three. She asked if there were any plans or anything that would prevent her from staying until dinner, and I said, "Well, it is my birthday." She freaked because she had forgotten it. I let her know that Mom had it covered, and that I liked my gift from her. She said she'd probably be home by 2:30. Now I've got to go to the store soon, and get the ingredients to make my own birthday dinner. It'll be the same thing I made for my wife's birthday last April, parmesan chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli.
I'll be going out tonight with my friends. One of them, Brian, has volunteered to be designated driver. I think we'll have fun.
I'd rather spend the evening being held by my wife. But that's not going to happen.
