My fiance’ has been having trouble adjusting to his medication. I find myself back in his shoes when I first began my medication four years ago. I thought I’d write a few words to maybe encourage anyone else who might be suffering with the same issues. Having a mental disorder or sickness of the mind causes one to need therapy or medication in most circumstances. I think it takes a while to get used to the idea that we actually have a problem that needs to be dealt with in a serious manner. It is important to find a doctor that you feel comfortable talking to and who you feel is prescribing you medication in the correct way. I think this is difficult to someone who has OCD because of the constant doubt that people who suffer with OCD have in their minds about EVERYTHING (it seems). I think that is a major hurdle to jump over. Once you do that and you are being medicated you have to know that you may very well need medication for the rest of your life. It’s a work in progress. It’s not easy to deal with and you will have to work at it. I’ve been taking medicine for 4 years now for my bipolar disorder and I have to say that it does get easier. At some point I will have to up my meds or change my meds. I am aware of that and comfortable with that. With every change in medication there will be some side effect and I am also aware of that. I know that sometimes it takes being a little uncomfortable to be comfortable in the long run. Sometimes it takes a little struggle for a while to get to the point where you can be at ease enough to enjoy life. Everyone has problems. Their problems may not be the same as mine, or yours, or the person next to them, but they have problems. "The event matters less than what happens after the event occurs"- unknown. It is necessary to fight for what we want. It is necessary to go through new things and feel uncomfortable at times in order to get where we want to be. Things worth having in life are sometimes things that we must fight to obtain. BUT EVERYTHING in life that we truly DESIRE will be worth putting up a fight for. If we are not willing to sacrifice things for what we DESIRE then we must not want it all that much.
