Hi everyone,

I’ve just started a blog which is a daily diary of my attempt to rid my anxiety and depression using mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT).

As you probably guessed from my title, I like many other people suffer from mental illness. Like a lot of you, I suffer in silence.

I’m just your average guy and if you saw me you probably wouldn’t have a clue that I suffered from anxiety and depression due to the constant facade and making excuses to avoid situations that could trigger discomfort.

I’m a male in my early thirties, and like a lot of men, I won’t go and seek professional help – I don’t know why that it is, it just seems to be hard wired into our brains for some annoying reason.  Further to this, I don’t want the doctor to just throw some pills at me, I actually want to rewire my brain to be ‘normal’ again. So, as a result I thought I would see if there is any miracle cure out there online that I could try and create a diary of my journey.

I’ve carried out a lot of research on medical websites such as Pubmed….trawling through endless amounts of reports on clinical trials on various different methods for treating anxiety and depression. The one that caught my eye was mindfulness meditation. From my research it is reported in many journals to be as effective as medication.

So, I carried out some further research on mindfulness and it does have some pretty impressive claims and you can do it in the comfort of your own home without having to carry out scary daily tasks like you do with some forms of treatment.

In my reading of this subject, I noticed that the British National Health Service (NHS) recommend mindfulness as an effective treatment for anxiety and depressions….surely the NHS wouldn’t recommend something like this to the general public without solid ground to make such claims?! So with that in mind, and my own research on Pubmed, I thought what have I got to lose and I thought I would give mindfulness a go!

I’m new to this so any feedback is welcome but feel free to follow my blog to see if mindfulness works for me and can hopefully through my daily diary help you.

I’ve only just started the blog and MBCT so hopefully lets see the healing commence!
