I find it rather strange that irrespective of the mental illness you have, the fear of that illness is always the same. The what if factor if you like.

What if I don’t get better?

What if I lose control?

What if no one can help me?

And my personal favourite, I’m in a good place right now, what if it comes back?

The what ifs can rule your whole life if you’re not careful, and can hold you back, but they can also be a powerful tool to help you heal.

What if I’m not beyond help? Imagine if therapy and mental health care actually work? What kind of strength might you find within as a result?

What if I can find tools and coping strategies for life’s problems? Imagine a world where you have the strength and more importantly the therapy tools to face life’s challenges head on!

What if all of my fears and all the negative things I tell myself aren’t true? Imagine being able to see your own compassion and bravery for what it is, and more importantly, being able to send your positivity out into the world.

What if my mental health therapy journey is the start of something better? Imagine what life would be like for you if you’ve conquered your fears, you’ve become strong and confident, and you have the therapy tools to deal with anything?

Sounds like a pretty awesome life doesn’t it? It may take time to get there, it may be a difficult road ahead, but wouldn’t it be worth it?
That’s the true power of what if!
